Singing In The Rain–Not

I can remember when a rainy day was fun.  As a child I had a matching  raincoat with umbrella.  It was so comforting to splash through the puddles in the blue raincoat with the roses.

Umbrellas were dependable.  Some were big like a man’s or adult sized one. Maybe some were heavy or large but they opened easily.

Then umbrellas got smaller—more compact.  Some had easy to close buttons.

Recently in the spring I was using my brown umbrella with the easy to open button. As I crossed the grocery store parking lot—I tried to close it. ” Ouch!!!” It took a big chunk of skin off my finger.  It was good the store had band aids–and something to stop the bleeding.

Then a few months ago–I picked up an umbrella that was new but belonged to a relative.  The darn thing snapped me in the face as I opened it.

Stop and check to see if that the umbrella is safe.   Before you use it.

Plenty of rainy days ahead.

Like Gene Kelly in that movie….you might want to sing in the rain.

Card Crazy

Cards—no not the 52 that you play with in a deck of cards.  It’s the other kind.

How can I start–identity cards-like library cards.  I am not counting credit card, driver’s license or car registration..

It is the influx of store cards–shopper reward cards.  This is the endless number of card frenzy.  You have a shoppers card at drug, grocery, craft, auto and department stores.

Supposedly you get the sale price of things when a member.  Some cards count as reward points when you buy at certain stores.

Card –CARDS–cards—are taking over my wallet. Some look so much alike.

But sometimes the cards seem to take over.  You straighten them out.  Group them.  There are times you pull them out and set aside if you know you won’t be going to that particular store. Sometimes you forget them–oh my!!

The other day the cashier got annoyed with me when I handed her a card at Staples.

She goes–it’s not scanning.  Apparently I had given her a Michaels’ card instead. So no service with a smile–just hand over the card.

Anyone want to play a game of Rummy?

What Is Art…..Part 2 (Yes An Endless Question)

To further explore what is art…I am sharing with your what I said in response to the question.   Of course the question in the group was asked…..What is art?

Art to me is like breathing. It’s a part of life…It is life. You don’t set out to create something—it calls to you and you help bring it to life.

Then people were trying to say is digital art or is this way art.  They were trying to break it down.

Like they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think art is like that too.  We look at it and see what we feel is the meaning of the piece. But it is open to anyone’s interpretation. So what is art to me might not seem like art to you.

That is the beauty of art—Freedom of expression. Don’t knock it down with endless discussion. Look–enjoy–learn. Only to some–at times just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder—-some of us might think that person needs to get their eyes checked. So live–look—if you don’t like it—move on to something else.

What Is Art….Do You Know… Part 1

As an artist I belong to different groups.  One is an monthly  Artist’s Forum where  members exchange ideas and tell what they are working on.

Online is a bit of a different matter. Especially on Facebook–the artists groups always seem to question exactly what is art.  There never seems to be a peaceful or calm resolution.

I don’t know if it is because online.. people exhibit a different online or web personality. But this topic stirs up the wildest of critics and never seems to reach a conclusion.  Sometimes people rant and someone ends up quitting the group.

I guess since the earliest cave person started to draw on the cave wall—there was a critic.  Homer from the next cave, probably said “Hm–don’t like your colors or shading on the great beast you have drawn–Ugh Ugh…”  Then the artist promptly decked Homer.

So since the early days—art has evoked passion—devotion—and endless contemplation.

When Bunny Hops…..

I remember seeing young rabbits running and playing around my backyard apple tree.  They did not seem to eat anything valuable but many natural weeds.  It was fun to watch them.

Then came a year when I did not see any rabbits at all.  No momma rabbit leading her babies across the incline to hide in the tall grass.  It was very strange.

I know that year—I saw foxes coming by the yards from the woods.    It was terrible I found a dead baby rabbit’s head.  Who knows what happened?

I know a lot of people will complain about animals.  But I think the world is a little better when you have a healthy dose of wild life to observe.  It is like the world saying–“Hey everything is okay.”

This spring and summer I saw some rabbits again.  They were running very fast. I think something scared them.  So it goes—stay safe—

For Me–I’ll Take Hamburger

I love animals–That’s just the way I am.  It is something you are born with. So–I don’t really like hunting.

Not wanting to get into a dispute with the people that do.  It could be a regional thing.  If you are doing it–I don’t want to hear about it, nor do I want to eat or hear about your venison burger or meat.

A dear friend a few days ago–sent me photos of a venison meal he was making and all I could do is say— honestly I felt like puking.

I like to observe the beauty of animals (ALIVE) –take photos of them–make videos–draw pictures—paint them–make sculpture.  Yes—of Live Ones.

So with that said—No to your outdoor nature meals—yes I know the early pioneers ate it—but it’s not for me.
